Biography

Beginnings in French adult cinema

Brigitte Lahaie is a French actress and radio presenter, born in Tourcoing on 12 October 1955. Her first period shooting pornographic films ran from 1976 to 1980 before continuing in genre cinema and the media. After initially working in retail, she moved to Paris, posed for magazines and began screen work. Her adult film period belongs to the second half of the 1970s but does not represent her entire acting career.[4][1]

Jean Rollin and fantastic cinema

Jean Rollin cast her in The Grapes of Death, Fascination and The Night of the Hunted. Those collaborations place her within French fantastic cinema, separately from her early pornographic films. Film catalogues associate the three titles with 1978, 1979 and 1980 respectively. She also returned to Rollin’s work in La Fiancée de Dracula.

Her genre film career includes other collaborations, notably Faceless. Much later she appeared in Calvaire. These films document the continuation of her acting beyond the period when she first became known as a porn actress.[1][3]

Roles in mainstream productions

Lahaie also has credits in I… comme Icare, Diva, Pour la peau d’un flic and Henry & June. These are mainstream productions spanning thrillers, crime films and drama. Her filmography therefore contains roles of differing kinds and prominence rather than a single film category.

The documentary Brigitte et moi looks back at her background. She subsequently appeared in Une dernière fois in 2020. These credits extend a screen career accompanied by long-running work in television presentation and radio broadcasting.[1][3]

Studios and documented professional credits

The catalogue for Brigitte Lahaie includes studio labels such as Private, Caballero, Metro. These names come from the title references and provide a route through the production or distribution networks associated with this career. The directory records 47 acting credits, keeping each professional function separate. The same title can therefore account for more than one credit. These figures describe the entries currently documented here; they are neither a count of new shoots nor a measure of career length. Original productions, reissues and compilations need to be distinguished using the individual references. A studio label alone does not establish an exclusive contract or an employer relationship.[5]

Career and professional background

Television and radio after adult films

After her pornographic film period, Brigitte Lahaie worked as a television presenter, including on French cable channels. She then hosted Lahaie, l’amour et vous on RMC from 2001 to 2016. The programme addressed relationships and sexuality through conversations with listeners. Her broadcasting is a separate professional activity rather than simply commentary on her earlier films.[4]

A sustained presenting career

She joined Sud Radio in 2016 to continue a programme based on listeners’ questions and conversations with guests. The station identifies her as the presenter of Brigitte Lahaie Sud Radio. Her media work also includes equestrian commentary: she covered riding events at the 2012 London Olympics. Her background combines successive or overlapping occupations in adult films, mainstream cinema, television and radio. The dates of her pornographic shoots should consequently not be treated as the dates of her overall professional retirement.[4]
